When I learned about the Women’s March last December, there was no question in my mind that I had to participate. I could not be complacent as I watched many of our rights being stripped away. For me, the rhetoric of our current president—the basis of his campaign—was such an extreme contrast to the values I hold that I could not ignore my surging feelings of disbelief and anger. I know many people voted from Trump because they believed he was the best candidate that would bring back jobs and improve our economy. They may not share his feelings about… [read more]
Mirror, Mirror… A reflection about the truth of your beauty
They say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. So when you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see all the beauty you embody or do you begin to make a mental checklist of all the physical “fixes” you need in order to feel beautiful? Thanks to mass media and advances in technology, we are bombarded by extreme standards of “beauty.” And those standards become more and more difficult to attain, particularly for women. It’s no wonder women are much more self-critical than men. Among women over 18, research states that at… [read more]
Our launch, our intention
We are truly excited to be launching our blog today, which includes a collection of many of the conversations we’ve had with our board members over the past year. At this auspicious moment, we held a special meeting with our board members—for the blog has truly been a co-creation with them. For the first time, they came together as a ‘collective’ [vs individually], an energy quite distinct, yet a resonance which was familiar to us. Here we share their intention [and ours] for the blog and celebrate with much joy the launch of what we hope will be a platform to serve others.… [read more]
Are you living the narrow scope of Ferrari-filled experience?
During today’s conversation with our board, the topic of perfectionism and exactitude came up. I admit I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. And I know plenty of people who set the bar so high for themselves, that it’s nearly impossible [if not exhausting] to reach it. So we thought this would be a worthy topic to share. Until recently, I always thought perfectionism was a good goal to aspire to. It shows I pay attention to detail. It demonstrates I have high personal standards. It’s what defines my drive to progress professionally and financially. Sound familiar? But… [read more]
Honoring our collective origins
It’s the first week of July and we ended another week of more senseless violence: the deaths of Philander Castile in Minnesota and Alton B. Sterling in Louisiana at the hands of the police. Then there was the shooting of the Dallas policemen, said to be in retaliation. And all of this came on the heels of the Istanbul airport attack, leaving 45 people dead and 230 injured, the coordinated bomb attacks in Baghdad, and the ongoing violence in Syria to name a few. So we are in a particularly somber mood today, wondering why there seems to be an escalation of violence and terrorism… [read more]
What does water symbolize for you?
Water is an element with innumerable qualities. Water can be murky or transparent. It can drown or quench thirst. It can be soft as a trickle or forceful, removing obstacles in its path. It can destroy or spring forth new life. Today, we were each asked by our board to describe what water symbolizes. Their perspective, as always, was deep and meaningful. The words we use to describe water can represent the emotional energy we value in ourselves, or a reflection of our own innate qualities, or our perception of how we relate to others. The meaning of water is unique… [read more]
Restoring humanity’s true reflection
One of the most wondrous revelations I’ve had since I began this journey is spirit’s perspective of us— humanity—and the experience of our physical life. The expansiveness and richness of our experience in the development of our souls. The fact that we are all beings of light, each unique but part of the collective too. Last October, our dear friend Khaled expressed this ever so eloquently, “So let us leave you with this—find in the sky a distant star and hold it in your heart. You now hold all within you that has ever existed. Is this not magic? Delicious magic that permeates the… [read more]
Discernment: The impartial meditator
The debates, the town halls, and the pundits hashing out e-v-e-r-y word spoken (and tweet tweeted) by the candidates. It can be exhausting, and for some, an entertaining distraction from an otherwise mundane work day. Not to say the 2016 election isn’t important. It should be. But amidst the 24/7 news coverage of the elections, are we paying attention to other issues like the Panama Papers? Eryn and I talked about the current state of affairs, the never ending political rhetoric and chatter, making it difficult to distinguish truth and deception clearly. We questioned if we can expect a genuine expose of the Panama Papers… [read more]
Co-creation (and creativity) in action
Our board may be viewed by some as atypical, we admit. There is no dissemination of documents or an agenda [albeit, we often do assign action items!] But we hold ourselves to some conventionalities. Our board is governed by the powers, duties, and responsibilities of, let’s just say, our bylaws of the highest consciousness. And when it comes to important matters, such as the idea of this blog, we confer with our board of advisors for their vote. So in the spirit of transparency, we share an example of our “board meeting minutes,” and in doing so, hope you are entertained by the collaborative… [read more]
The Alchemist: Exploring a recipe for happiness
It’s nearly March and for the first time in my life, I haven’t drafted up the “proverbial” list of goals to achieve this year: increase my business income by 30%, increase my retirement contributions by 20%, lose those extra 10 pounds, commit to working out at the gym, sign up for that sculpting class, etc. The list goes on; you know the drill. I’ve always been goal driven. It gives me a sense of purpose, knowing I’m working towards improving my life on all fronts. But this year is different. I’ve been feeling a subtle and yet profound transition building deep within me, a yearning for… [read more]
